Ummey Karim is the Program Coordinator at Ascender. At Ascender, she plans and executes community programming for our members, entrepreneurs, and alumni. In collaboration with the Innovation Director, she uses data to create inventive storytelling and success metrics for the Incubation / Opportunity Hub cohorts.
Ummey found herself captivated by Ascender’s commitment to supporting Pittsburgh’s entrepreneurs and fostering economic growth, ensuring that Pittsburgh remains an exceptional place for both work and living.
Before joining Ascender, Ummey accumulated over 5 years of experience in People Operations, Workplace Experience, and Event Planning within startup environments situated in New York City and San Francisco, with a particular focus on mental health and product analytics. Her responsibilities included orchestrating various events ranging from IPO celebrations to company-wide off-sites and volunteer initiatives. Additionally, Ummey oversees operations and communication at Barrel & Flow, an annual festival in Pittsburgh celebrating Black breweries and artistry.
Ummey holds a BA in Journalism. When she is not working, she can be found teaching yoga, swimming, biking, and exploring all of the hiking trails Pittsburgh has to offer.
